No Good Deed

"The young girl - only fifteen - had saddled up and gone for a ride, but no one saw her return to the horse farm that afternoon. There's blood on the trail, and a discarded riding boot. Cincinnati police detective Sonora Blair has a feeling this girl's not coming back. Sonora's very good at her job, but sometimes she wishes her instincts weren't so sharp. She and her partner, Sam, do find a body, buried in the back of someone's property. There's not much to go on in terms of motive. The girl's father is too distraught to be of much use, and the horse farm's owner isn't talking either - not even after she lands in the hospital with a finger missing. Sonora is bothered, too, by the uncomfortably attractive man who leases the barn next door. Who is he, and why does he hang around so damn much?
